A Parable of the Geek

Once upon a time, there was this Geek who had long hair and who was lonely.

This Geek was lonely because he/she knew no one doing the same courses (aka subjects) at uni as he/she.

So the Geek just played with his/her phone and his/her tablet outside of Lectures, Contacts, Tutorials, Pracs etc doing study or just geeking out.

The Geek felt lonely but knew it was he/she's fault because he/she didn't make a decent effort on socialisation.

But felt really apprehensive talking to people.

But that changed one day; when fellow students said hi or asked the Geek about what degree the Geek was doing.

The Geek was passionate about IT and the other courses he/she was doing.

Very enthusiastic about IT and had been passionate about it from a young age.

Then the Geek realised that there was nothing to worry about talking to others as long as you listened; talked back and were polite.

In short, the Geek realised that he/she was idiotic not socializing with others because there is a lot to learn from other Geeks.

Queensland Informatics and Programming Club - Python

I staffed the Queensland Informatics and Programming Club yesterday.

We had at least 11 people and 4 tutors including myself.

We have 10 year olds up to Year 12s and teachers learning Python.

A girl also emailed Dr Burton but she didn't turn up.

Probably she was someone I talked to at "I choose Technology" at TSXPO on Sunday afternoon

I also want to introduce them to UberStudent/Ubuntu as well.

We are on Macs on the iLC using the Mac OS X partition rather than the Windows 7 partition.
